The public have spoken and picked the winner of the Pound Arts Open’s People’s Prize category.

Throughout the exhibition, held at the centre in Pound Pill through November and December, visitors have been voting for their favourite piece in the collection.

Walcot by Bradford on Avon artist Andrea Cryer received the most votes, winning the £150 prize.

She said: “I was a little surprised but I’m so pleased to have won the category. Getting the people’s vote is a fantastic accolade, especially when there were so many fine pieces in the exhibition.

“I’d like to say thank you to those who voted for me.”

The Pound Arts Open is now in its fifth year and the exhibition will run at the Pound until December 19.

Last month, at the launch of the competition, judges gave the first prize of £500 to Tara Parker-Woolway for her piece Frisky Chicks; Connie Addison won £250 for second place with Tree Ferns, West Dean; and Sally Jeffries won the Corsham Print Prize for Breakfast with Vincent, with the piece being made into postcards.

Charity Colborne, marketing assistant at The Pound, said: “This year’s event was really successful as we had more than 200 entries and then it was a very difficult task narrowing them down for the exhibition.”
