And that's it, it is all over.

Jahmene has been whisked off and is no doubt now looking towards getting mentally prepared for this weekend's X Factor final.

We'll also be running live blogs on Saturday and Sunday night during the show - and we want to include as many as your comments and pictures as possible.

Send them to webteam@swindonadvertiser.co.uk or tweet them to @swindonadver

Jahmene is currently performing to the crowd - he is singing At Last followed by Ain't No Mountain High Enough mixed with Amy Winehouse's Tears Dry on Their Own.

Here is what some Tweeters have to say about Jahmene and the Christmas Lights switch on...

6:30pm

Thousands of people have congregated in Wharf Green for the lights switch on tonight.

The crowds stretch all the way down Canal Walk and traffic  heading in to the centre is busy.

Reporter Matt Edwards is in Wharf Green and will be chatting to Jahmene shortly.

6:18pm

Here is a sneak peek at a couple of the photos that will be in our special supplement tomorrow

Jahmene is now getting ready to leave Gorse Hill Community Centre. He performed four songs in total, including This Little Light of Mine with Nicole.

4:57pm

4:45pm

Jahmene is now performing - the choir have just sung Yes Lord and are now singing Jesus Loves Me.

Nicole has got into the spirit of the meeting and is wearing one of the purple choir robes.

4:32pm

Is everyone getting ready for the Christmas lights switch on in T-Minus two and a half hours? Jahmene is due to be on stage at approximately 6.30pm and will be flicking the switch to illuminate the town centre at 7pm.

4:27pm

Here's a picture of the choir warming up ready to sing with Jahmene

1:39pm

Jahmene has just left Asda. We're expecting his next stop is Gorse Hill Community Centre in about an hour.

1:36pm

Nicole has just tweeted this picture of a pizza menu under the word - lunch!

Anyone have any idea if this restaurant is in Swindon (she could be teasing us and it may be the menu from lunch yesterday in Middlesbrough) and if so where

You can't quite make out the name at the top of the menu.

Answers on a postcard please...

The Wiltshire Gazette and Herald:

UPDATE: Thanks to our lovely Facebook readers I can reveal that the menu is not in Swindon, it's from Rapps Cafe 'oop north' where Nicole was with James Arthur yesterday.

1:30pm

The lovely team at Asda have just presented Jahmene with a cheque for £10,000 for Women's Aid.

1:25pm

There have been cheers, tears and a lot of screaming outside Asda as Jahmene meets his fans.

He has been busy signing autographs and is now chatting with mum Mandy and some of his former Asda colleagues.

1:18pm

1:18pm

1:18pm

Jahmene is at Asda - and the crowds have gone wild!

1:14pm

12:53pm

12:50pm

Also waiting at the front of the store, wearing his vote Jahmene T-shirt, is Stewart Fleming, Asda Walmart’s fresh manager, who is still technically the star’s boss until his career break comes to an end on January 13.

He said: “I did speak to him last week and told him I expected to see him back at work and he just laughed at me. But I have got nothing but pride for the guy to be fair and I hope he goes from strength to strength and gets better.

“For the colleagues, I’m really pleased he decided to come. Because there’s a lot of guys that work with him here that were close to him when he was at the store and they ‘re just made up for him to come back and say hello and have a chat to them.”

12:44pm

They have been waiting out in the cold for hours but as you can see from this picture, the team from Asda still have a smile on their faces as they wait for Jahmene to arrive.

The Wiltshire Gazette and Herald:

12:20pm

Jahmene's mum Mandy Thomas is among those waiting outside Asda for her son. She has been telling the Adver (and other media) how proud she is of Jahmene and everything that he has achieved.

12:13pm

Are you amongst the hundreds of people waiting to see Jahmene outside Asda? Why not send us your pictures of the singer when he arrives? You can email them to webteam@swindonadvertiser.co.uk or you can also text them to 80360 starting your message with SWINDON NEWS.

12:09pm

Chin up everyone in the crowd outside Asda - the hanging about in the cold will soon be worthwhile. Jahmene is on his way.

12:08pm

The pupils at Abbey Meads School didn't stop chanting Jahmene's name from the moment the helicopter landed!

11:52am

11:50am

11:49am

11:43am

The helicopter has landed - but they haven't emerged from it yet.

11:37am

11:36am

Jahmene Douglas and his mentor Nicole Scherzinger are about to land in a helicopter at Abbey Meads School - the pupils are all cheering and waving posters.

11:24am

11:23am

Our reporter David Wiles has been chatting to the crowd at Asda.

Laura Golding, 41, of Woodall Park, said Jahmene was 'brilliant'.

"I have been watching and listening to the show most weeks. It is great that something good is coming out of Swindon."

And teenager Rebecca Wickens, of Pinehurst, has been braving the chilly weather since 9.45am to catch a glimpse of the singer.

"I'm really glad he's remembering his roots," said the 16-year-old.

"A lot of celebrities to go to America and forget about where they come from but Jahmene is remembering his roots."

10:50am

A couple of pictures of people waiting at Asda to see Jahmene when he arrives.

This young lad has a fabulous voice but, more than that, is already using his fame to highlight a real problem in our society.
Its such a shame that people think they are better than others but by being so rude show that they haven't even been clever enough to learn good manners!
Its great to see a local lad doing so well- GO JAHMENE!

What sad small-minded people we live amongst. Jahmene is a local lad who has exceptional talent and who is using that talent for charitable endeavour. I am post grad-educated, I shop at Asda and I enjoy watching the X Factor even more so this year with the spine tingling awe-inspiring performances put on my Jahmene. Good luck to him and his family. Well done to him for putting Swindon on the map and for highlighting the social monster that is the domestic abuser. Well done Asda for what they have raised for Womens Aid.

If you don't have anything nice to say may I suggest you say noting at all (or were you "haters" not raised correctly?)

Thank you Jahmene for bringing so much pleasure to so many and Good luck for Saturday. You have my vote!

Yes he has highlighted the plight of the Womans age refuge-and raised a good and i am sure a welcome boost for them
sadly--very little is heard of the men who suffer domestic violence.
He has not forgotten his roots here as his visit today has shown. We all hope his future goes well and he reaches the heights he fully deserves.

Enjoy it whilst it lasts, unfortunately, show biz is fickle and you have to gain from it what you can.

Personally I hope he doesn't win, not because I don't like him or anything... I think he has a great voice, but it seems to me that acts that win the show tend to be held back from releasing their material for ages where as the other finalists have albums in the shops almost straight away and do well for themselves. E.g. JLS, 1 Direction...Huge!
Who won last year a girls group wasn't it, what have they done? or the guy who won a couple of years ago Matt Cardel, thought he would be big but hasn't come to much.
So don't take it the wrong way Jahmene, I hope you come second, get the xfactor tour out the way then bang an album out while they wastes time thinking up an image and songs for the winner.

I think on the basis that this guy is being paid £15,000 of council tax payers money despite this being his "home town" we all have a right to voice the opinion we have paid to voice.
Personally I have no time for these instant fame and fortune programmes when so many just as talented hard working singers never make it, but we live in this "now" society where no one it seems wants to actually work hard for a living they just want it on a plate and they want it now. Maybe one of the reasons the country and others are in this mess is because everyone wants it now and sod the future. Sad but true.
Each to their own but dont slag off those who choose not to agree with your point of view after all there is no right or wrong only opinion!

Well done to Jahmene - I don’t watch X-factor but from what I have heard, the kid has talent.

Enjoy it whilst it lasts, unfortunately, show biz is fickle and you have to gain from it what you can.
I'm in my 30s. Too old to be watching naff tv and waiting in freezing weather to jump on a bandwagon! And how anyone can defend the shoppers at the awful Chavsda is beyond me! I've ventured in a few times and have never seen so many shuffling track suits! Each to their own though eh?
What an offensive post, why post that? For someone who doesn't like naff TV and Asda you sure seem to know a lot about them both. I'm an Asda shopping, X-Factor watching, non-track suit owning professional by the way.

Back on the article; I think Nicole Scherzinger was quite a draw too.

You give the impression you have such an idealistic life its a wonder you have time to spare on people you consider to be "chavs". Very unfair, very very unfair and patronising.

That was the price paid for the "package" , the singer, his "handler", the bodyguards, the helicoptor, how much do you think these sort of things cost then? the likes of Nicole wouldnt get out of bed for less than 5 grand....

As for Localboy, just because your opinion differs from mine there is no reason to be rude and ignorant. And I dont moan, I just pass comment on how I see things and I have a very diffetent view on what passes for entertainment in my life than you do clearly. It doesnt make either of us right or wrong just different, so please, if you want others to respect your opinion, whatever it might be then you have to do the same to them. And no I have never requested an FOI in my life, I have far more interesting things to do, but as you clearly didnt believe me I was suggesting a way you could get proof of how your tax money is being spent on your behalf. I am sure a lot of people thoroughly enjoyed it all and good luck to them but for me the whole "celebtity" thing just leaves me cold.

What some miserable so & so's on here.

This Town hasn't got much going for it. It's a town stuck in a time warp. So although X-Factor isn't everyone's cup of tea (I don't watch it), it's nice to have a bit of spirit that brought thousands of people together yesterday, in freezing weather. Young and old alike.

As for oldtownmum - how stuck up you have come across. Where people shop has nothing to do with them being Chavs. Alot of people will shop there as it's the closest supermarket to them. Frosty knickers!!!

As for houseonthehill - where do you get your figures from if you haven't been digging into information from the Council?? Do you work for them? Wasn't the helicopter laid on by simon Cowell??

I 2 Could B says...

The amount of prime time advertising that ASDA has received via Mr Douglas' appearances on The X Factor has already been worth around £100k to them and the TV exposure that Swindon will receive this weekend will dwarf any small amount that may have been paid for last night's appearance.

Mr Douglas seems like a decent kind of person and, while not to my taste, does have a strong voice and obvious talent. I really fail to see how anyone can be overly negative about him, and the fact he's from Swindon is a good thing for the town's profile.

It's also excellent that he has helped point the spotlight on the horrific criminality of domestic abuse. The more the profile of this terrible crime is raised, the more out magistrates and judiciary will have to start handing down appropriate sentences and stop letting abusers get away with their crimes. People are sick to death of their leniency encouraging these types of crimes.

That posts and your username sums you up so well...

'oldtownmum' - is that all that you are? Oh how much you must have worked to reach that lofty goal.

'happily married to a hard working man' - again showing that you yourself have no worth.

Continual use of the expression 'chavsda' because you think that it's such a clever play on words - showing a total lack of intelligence (or for that matter, class). Think yourself lucky he didn't work in Tesco - oh how would you have incorporated 'chav' in that?

Think about this - you have no intelligence, you have no class, you are in your 30's (therefore your looks are now fading). Don't you think that your 'hard working' husband might be looking for a younger, more intelligent model? Indeed, doesn't he deserve better than you?

See you in Asda after the divorce (if not Poundstretchers!)
