A man who raped a four-year-old girl he was babysitting on two occasions has been jailed for 14 years.

Adam Leyfield, who has a son of his own, was looking after the little girl for her family when he carried out the abuse earlier this year.

The 29-year-old got the child to carry out a sex act on him, which in law is a rape, and then told her not to tell anyone.

But the child told her mother, who called the police and Leyfield, of Glenville Close, Royal Wootton Bassett, was arrested.

He denied any wrongdoing but was convicted of two counts of rape of a child under 13 following a trial at Swindon crown court earlier this month.

Jane Brady, defending, said her client still denies the allegations but was prepared to go on sex offender programmes while in custody.

Leyfield, she said, was facing the prospect of a lengthy jail term and on his release he would have to live with restrictions from orders the court would impose.

He and his parents, who support him, would also have to live with the stigma of the offences of which he had been convicted.

Social services were also likely to intervene, making it difficult for him to have contact with his young son when he is freed, she said.

Jailing him, Judge Euan Ambrose also put in place a sexual offences prevention order restricting his contact with young girls and told him he must register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
