A mother ended up swimming the equivalent of the English Channel for charity, after her son asked her to go swimming at their local pool in Corsham.

Angela Montgomery, 54, signed up for the national event after spotting a leaflet on a one-off visit to the Springfield Centre pool with her son Alex, 15.

The Aspire Channel Swim 2012 challenge requires participants to swim 22 miles in their local pool over a 12-week period from September 10–December 2.

Aspire raises money to support people paralysed by spinal cord injury.

Mrs Montgomery, of Chestnut Grange, Corsham, completed the required 1,416 lengths 13 days before the deadline.

She has already collected £220 in donations, with pledges for a further £150, with a target total of £500.
