I WISH to inform people through your columns that in December I resigned as a Chippenham town councillor, having been elected to represent Pewsham for the last six and a half years.
Sadly, my health has prompted this move as it has not been possible carry out the duties and implied responsibilities of community work as effectively as I would like, which includes attendance at committee meetings and I have had to send my apologies because of ill health.
The role has been one that I have enjoyed immensely and have felt honoured to have been elected twice to serve for Pewsham, at the same time making friends with many fellow councillors trying to do our best for the community.
It has been a task that has been absorbing and it was very good to work alongside committed fellow councillors and dedicated and professional officers of the council at all levels in bringing better quality services to our community of Chippenham.
It has been especially good to be part of the enhancement to the culture of our town through The Neeld in which the past year has seen diverse ‘act’ of music, comedy and performing arts, which have been greatly attended by many in our community and across the wide age groups that live in our town.
This is also replicated by our museum and Stanley Park where our committees have worked so hard in bringing quality to the programmes put forward.
It has been good to be associated with the success of the splashpad and many excellent events and services in John Coles Park. Also to be part of a town council supporting an amazing voluntary sector in Chippenham with the work that many unsung heroes carry out for a wide spectrum of ages in need of the diverse services to enjoy the community they live in.
The case work I have been involved in has been of great importance to me, and I have tried my best to follow up enquiries from many across the town.
I would like to assure people that I am still available to give information and help where possible.
Hopefully, I will benefit from this respite and be able again to carry on being of some use in a town that I love and feel proud to have served in my recent role as a Liberal Democrat town councillor. Thanking many friends in Pewsham who have supported me in this role.
I wish all who work to the benefit of our town well, always remembering through inevitable changes to the town scene that the council will carry on keeping in touch by listening to all the community as it has always done.
