Vibrant American string sextet arrives in Wiltshire
Village welcomes old time country string band
Buffalo Gals
Where: Seend Community Centre
When: Saturday 25th April, 7.30pm
Buffalo Gals are at the forefront of the emerging American roots music scene in the UK and Europe, and represent a revival of the string band tradition in its most vibrant form.
This six-piece band, led by champion American fiddler and dynamic singer Kate Lissauer, specialises in performance of the old songs and tunes of Appalachia, blues, spirituals and gospel, all delivered with passion and flair, and punctuated with the stunning percussive step-dance that has become one of their trademarks.
The visual and musical delights of their performances, as well as their humour and rapport with their audiences, have made Buffalo Gals one of the most sought-after acts on the roots music circuit.
Their intoxicating style, incorporating Appalachian, Blues, Gospel, early Bluegrass, and novelties from the heyday of early country music, is punctuated with the stunning and thrillingly syncopated step-dance that has become one of their trademarks. Combining a love of traditional sounds with an enthusiasm for fresh arrangement and a talent for lively entertainment, they appeal to audiences of all ages and types, whether they be aficionados of old-time country music or completely new to its charms.
Buffalo Gals mix ballads, blues and spirituals with soaring harmonies and dazzling displays of percussive step-dancing. Their toe-tapping repertoire includes: Won’t You Come Out Tonight?, Won’t Get Trouble in Mind, and Won’t You be Cruel to be Kind?
They regularly appear at folk, bluegrass, and performing arts festivals, folk clubs and arts centres, as well as at venues throughout the UK with the support of the Arts Council.
The sextet travels the rural countryside bringing a feast of fiddle and banjo-led tunes and songs in the high lonesome sound of the South Appalachian Mountains.
