WESTBURY United and Corsham Town shared the derby spoils last weekend as they drew at Meadow Lane.

The opening period was forgettable, niggly and scrapp,y with little action of note, and when the few goalscoring chances did occur, they were wasted by United’s Nathan Hallett, who burst into the box from the left wing and hit a cross-shot wide.

Corsham’s Nick Holton also shot straight at home keeper Lewis Porter.

But the game sparked to life int he second period and after shots had been blocked at both ends, Corsham took the lead on 49 minutes.

Dan King’s 18-yard shot was saved by Porter but the ball broke to fellow striker Holton, who lashed it in from the edge of the box.

Westbury drew level five minutes later - a great ball forward by Ryan Baggs sent Mark Young through one-on-one with Scott Windle and he scored with a fine finish across the face of goal.

Both teams had chances to snatch victory.

United’s Beau Blakeman fired over the crossbar when well-placed after a fine move between Young and Matt Mead, where Windle did excellently to deny Mead when Young had set him up and Young himself fired wide from a similar situation to his earlier goal.

Town went close through a 20-yard King free kick, which was saved by Porter, who then did well late on after Holton had latched onto a loose ball.

Porter then made the best save of the match when King had shown good skill to turn and strike the ball powerfully.

Trevor Rawlings' Corsham have another Wiltshire derby on Wednesday evening, with Warminster Town visiting Southbank, while Sam Gooding's Westbury travel to Blackfield & Langley in the first round proper of the FA Vase.
