A recently closed escape room and axe-throwing venue has been gutted by removal crews after enforcement agents took over the premises.

Removal teams were seen emptying the Enigma Rooms Chippenham building in New Road, on the morning of Wednesday, August 30, just over a month after the town centre business shut for good.

The inside of the former axe throwing centre had been visibly gutted with many of the interior decorations and furnishings removed.

This comes after a notice confirming the landlord had instructed agents to enter and take possession of the ground floor shop, severing any lease or license.

Enigma Rooms opened its doors to the public for the first time in November last year.

But the branch’s original owners, Tanner Leisure Ltd, announced they would be leaving the chain just seven months after opening and sold the business to new management.

The new regime was short-lived, however, and the deal fell through less than a month later, leading Enigma to confirm the branch would shut permanently in July.

After this deal collapsed, Tanner Leisure Ltd boss John Tanner said he was hopeful alternative new owners could be found to rebrand the venue.

But he confirmed he has now handed the keys back to the landlord who will determine the future of the premises.
