THE PUBS might be shut, but entrepreneurial spirit is flowing in Pewsey.

Independent bar owners at The Shed Alehouse are going mobile and are delivering booze to thirsty punters by tuk tuk - which has now been dubbed ‘the Pewsey beer ambulance.’

The whole thing came about as bar owner Gordon Edwards fancied a pint in the recent hot weather, but didn’t feel able to down the whole barrel himself.

“We decided to see if we could sell the remaining pints in the barrel,” said his wife Sam.

“So we posted on our Facebook page to see if there were any takers, and thought it would be fun to deliver in the tuk tuk.”

“We thought we would just test the water on a Friday evening a couple of weeks ago, word got around and we ended up tapping three beer barrels and two cider barrels, and completely sold out!”

There are 72 pints in a barrel - with around 65 drinkable ones in the craft ales sold by the Shed. The service is proving so popular that they are expanding their operations.

“We are just doing Pewsey in the tuk tuk at the moment,” said Sam. “But we are also now delivering to surrounding villages like Upavon, Burbage and Oare.”

“ We are using plastic containers that can be recycled with tamper proof tops. The containers are unpacked and put in quarantine for 7 days before we use them. I deliver with gloves & a mask and we use a high alcohol hand sanitizer which we carry with us and is made and supplied to us by Ramsbury Brewery.”

And it seems the tuk tuk, now named Sheddy, will become part of the Pewsey landscape.

“We went on holiday to India a while ago,” said Sam. “And we fell in love with tuk tuks. Gordon went on the internet and found one for sale. We get a lot of tourists here, coming down on the train from London. We have people from America, Scandinavia, all sorts really. So we thought we could start doing tours of Pewsey in a tuk tuk for them.”
