Corsham dog groomer Tina Flavell has had all her long hair shaved off.

She filmed the whole thing live on Facebook, raising more than £1,700 for Trowbridge based charity, Alzheimer’s Support.

Tina had originally planned to do the head shave at a pub in front of friends and punters.

But the virus lockdown saw her partner Blair step in to wield the clippers at home instead.

Before the deed, she said: . “Blair’s really anxious about it and I’m feeling a bit insecure too.

"I could end up taking over and doing it myself!” says Tina.

She started by dividing her hair up into bands and cutting them off individually, before Blair stepped in with the clippers.

While Blair was at work, dog groomer Tina said: “This is me on the receiving end. I know how the dogs feel now.”

Once the head shave was finished, Tina said she was in shock.

“It was lovely to have so much support from friends and family, both Blair and myself were so nervous beforehand. I just hope I reach my £2000 target,” she said.

“I’m going to have a stiff drink and a cry but not necessarily in that order.”

Tina’s father lives with dementia and she has seen the physical and emotional strain it has placed on her mother who has become his carer.

She’s grateful to Alzheimer’s Support’s support worker who visits once a week at their home in Corsham to give her mother some much-needed down time, as well as providing advice on financial benefits.

“Shaving all your hair off is an incredibly brave thing to do,” says Rachel Fear, Alzheimer’s Support fundraiser.

“And letting your partner do it is even braver. We’re so grateful to Tina for making such a personal gesture for us to help people living with dementia.”
