MORE than £2,300 was raised for St Peter's Hospice and Dorothy House at an auction at Staverton Farm.

Horse trainers Michael and Sharon Blake, of Michael Blake Racing, invited 65 people to the venue last Wednesday for a pub quiz, a raffle, an auction of promises and a silent auction.

Some of the lots in the auction included a cricket bat signed by the England Cricket Team, greyhound racing tickets and a meal for six at the farm - which proved to be so popular, it was offered out two more times.

"It was just a fantastic evening and to have 65 people raise more than £2,300 is just a phenomenal effort," said co-organiser Laura Self.

"The auction was a tremendous success. We had nine different lots that raised so much more than we expected. We would have been pleased with £1,000 so to more than double that is terrific.

"There was a wonderful atmosphere, the quiz went down really well and we raised a lot of money for two really great causes.

"We are planning to do something like this next year as it was such a great debut for us. I want to thank everyone for their generosity as they really went the extra mile."
