HUNDREDS of families descended on West Ashton Primary School in Trowbridge for an evening of a fun activities and sport last Friday (July 10) when the school held its second family fun day.

The event, which was attended by more than 300 children and parents, was organised by the school’s Parent Teacher Association and included a barbecue, tombola and a photo booth.

Massive inflatables and a bouncy castle were hired from Active Trowbridge for children to enjoy, while there was also a range of sporting activities on offer.

All the money raised from the event will be going towards the funds for the Parents of West Ashton, which raises money to spend on improving school equipment and resources.

Headteacher Dr Sam Nash said: “It was a fantastic evening and we had over 300 people come along and take part in the activities. Everyone has a really good time and it was really well supported.

“We did it last year and it went really well, but the turnout was even better this year. We raised £1,000 at the last event and we are pretty sure that we have surpassed that figure this time around.

“We had activities hired from Active Trowbridge and there were massive inflatables and a bouncy castle for the children to enjoy. The photo booth allowed families to take pictures to last long in the memory and glitter tattoos were also popular.

“The event was about families coming together and celebrating being one big family. We are a Christian school and family is important to us, so the event was more about people having fun and enjoying themselves than fundraising.”

As well as the activities on offer at the family fun day, Year 6 pupil Lottie Bence, 10, had her hair chopped off for the Little Princess Trust, with sponsorship money going to Cancer Research UK.

Dr Nash added: “We have had a number of children raise money for charities this year through craft and cake sales, after we were all touched by the death of a parent from cancer.

“Lottie’s event was the last one of this year and all the money she raised through sponsorship will be going towards Cancer Research UK, while her hair will be used for a wig for a child suffering from cancer.”
