A search for a missing person in St Ives ended when they were found to have fallen 150 foot from a cliff path onto a grassy area above a beach.
Emergency services, including the coastguard rescue helicopter, Coastguard Rescue 924, were alerted at 7.30pm on Saturday evening to reports of a missing person in the Greenbank Cove area of St Ives.
They quickly found that the missing person had fallen 150 feet from the cliff path onto a grassed area with a member of their family climbing down the cliff using goat paths to get to them.
Not knowing how serious their injuries were, the Cornwall Air Ambulance was also called and a rope rescue was set up by St Ives Coastguard Rescue Team who lowered one of the crew and an air ambulance paramedic down to the injured person.
St Ives Lifeboat was also standing offshore in support Once they had been stabilised it was decided to use Coastguard Rescue 924 helicopter to winch the injured person up and tale take them straight to hospital.
Once that was done the family member who had climbed down was recovered along with the two rescue team members who’d gone down to help.
Posting on Facebook St Ives Coastguard Rescue team said it was a good show for all the teams involved and wished the injured person a speedy recovery.
“The team were tasked shortly before 19:30 yesterday evening (4th May) alongside St Ives CRT to reports of a missing person in the Greenbank Cove area,” said the post.
“It was quickly discovered that the casualty had fallen approx 150ft from the cliff path down onto a grassed bank above the beach were a family member had proceeded down the cliff via goat tracks to access the casualty.
“With injuries unknown Cornwall air ambulance were tasked and once they arrived on scene we had set up for a rope rescue and lowered a cliff technician with air ambulance paramedic down to the casualty.
“St Ives lifeboats were in attendance providing safety cover from below.
“With the casualty stabilized it was decided that Coastguard Rescue 924 would be the best extraction method to enable a swift extraction straight to hospital.
“Once the casualty had been winched from the area we could then recover our tech, paramedic and the casualty’s family member back to the cliff top.
“This was a good show of multi-agency working with the various agency’s involved.”
