AFTER a thrashing the day before by a touring side from Derby, Chippenham U14s were looking to take something positive away from this friendly against their Somerset visitors.

Starting well, the play was all Chippenham's for the first 10 minutes, in which time Rees had managed to score a fine try when sloppy defensive work by Clevedon left a loose ball for him to kick over the line and dive on.

Rees added a further try moments later when he brilliantly drove through.

Looking comfortable, Chippenham took their foot off the pedal and allowed Clevedon to get back into the match.

And, after a period of prolonged pressure, the inevitable try and conversion came from the visitors.

A good period of play followed for the home side; good rucking to secure ball by the forwards but some poor handling led to few real chances. However shortly before half time the backs showed very quick hands – getting the ball down the line at speed and, with a spectacular pass through the legs by Ryan, Rees was away again and made no mistake in scoring. Doggett converted.

After the restart, a basic error in the Clevedon defence gave Doggett the chance to scoop up a loose ball and touch down under the posts, increasing Chippenham’s lead to 24-7 after he converted.

Plucky Clevedon never gave up and were rewarded with a try shortly afterwards.

But the last 10 minutes of the match saw good pressure from Chippenham and excellent play by the forwards and Day was rewarded with a fine try minutes from the final whistle.
