DEVIZES Ladies saw their South West One home clash against Oakmeadians curtailed early at the Chivers Ground on Sunday following an injury to a visiting player, the away side clinching a 22-10 victory.

After conceding an early try despite a promising start, Devizes came back with a hearty response and an excellent box kick by Denise Warbutton was mis-fielded.

The ball was shipped down the line for Natalie A'Bear to show her pace and outstrip the defence on the outside for the hosts' first try.

Impressive carries from the likes of Lauren Nelson, Emma Matthews and Gemma Schrader yielded more yardage and Devizes doubled their try count five minutes later with a series of rucks near the line which were eventually finished off by second row Leah Reynolds who dived over.

Oakmedians fought back to take the lead again and Devizes were the architects of their own downfall for the next try when a clearance pass from the back of a ruck didn’t hit its target and Oakmedians added a score when Devizes committed too many players to the blind side leaving an overlap.

In driving rain, a further Oakmedians score took them clear before the game was moved to an adjacent pitch while the injured visiting player received treatment, no further scores being added.

Devizes Ladies are looking for new players. All ages from 17 and above of all skills and abilities are welcome. See devizesrfc.rfu.club for more details.
