TOMMY Bridewell chalked up his best result of the MCE British Superbike Championship season so far at the Oulton Park circuit on Monday.

The Etchilhampton rider, 28, was in 10th place after qualifying and finished just outside that position in 11th in the opening 18-lap race at the third meeting of the season in Cheshire.

In the second race, Bridewell improved to eighth spot - his best of the campaign - and lies 10th overall with the next round at Knockhill in Scotland on June 16-18.

Leon Haslam leads the championship despite a dramatic race two crash, after winning first time.

The JG Speedfit Kawasaki rider leads by three points from team-mate Luke Mossey despite a dramatic incident when he collided with the rear of James Ellison’s McAMS Yamaha.

Haslam had dominated race one ahead of the Be Wiser Ducati Racing machine of Shane Byrne and Mossey.

But with Byrne leading race two, which he went on to win for his first victory of the season, the drama unfolded directly behind him as Ellison’s machine appeared to suffer a technical problem and subsequently slowed dramatically.

Haslam hit Ellison’s bike from the rear, although both riders escaped the incident relatively unscathed.
