JORDAN Smith is set to miss the first cut of the 2018 European Tour after he carded a one-over round of 73 at the BMW SA Open.

The 25-year-old got off to a great start on day two of the 2018 curtain-raiser as he hit an eagle on the par four first, before adding a birdie four on the second.

However, his form soon deteriorated as he hit two bogeys and a double bogey on the fourth, fifth and sixth holes, before redeeming a stroke with a birdie on the par-five eighth.

His back nine was slightly less erratic, but equally turbulent as he scored a bogey-five on the 11th, before a birdie-three at the 12th.

The Derry Hill man notched his fourth bogey of the day at the 13th as he struggled for consistency in South Africa.

Smith was able to reduce his score by a stroke on the par-five 15th, but saw his hard work undone by a bogey on the 16th, leaving him one-over for the day and two-over for the tournament.
