CHIPPENHAM moved on the brink of promotion in Central 1 in the GoCrea8 League after a 2-0 success away at Firebrands B.

They suffered just a second defeat of the season at champions elect Clifton Robinsons B last time out but after this latest victory, Chippenham can seal promotion with a win at home to Mid Somerset this coming weekend.

Chippenham controlled the game from the outset and looked to maintain possession and dictate play.

They piled pressure on the Firebrands defence and eventually broke the deadlock when Aled Evans finished off good build-up play from with a reverse shot through the keeper’s legs.

There was no addition to the score before half-time due to some outstanding saves from the Brands goalkeeper but Chippenham looked to continue their high pressure play after the restart.

The home side began to create some good opportunities of their own, which were well defended by Chippenham, before Luke Morris finally sealed the win as he doubled the lead following a well-worked short corner.

n CHIPPENHAM A strengthened their own promotion aspirations with a 5-0 victory at home to Bristol & West A in Central 2, avenging the defeat they suffered in the reverse fixture.

The hosts were not quite firing on all cylinders but still came away with a clean sheet and moments of fine flowing hockey, which was best represented in their opening goal where a ball was threaded through to Elliot Jones who skilfully rounded three defenders to slot home.

Jones then turned supplier as he picked out Archie Wright to fire home from close range Good saves from Chippenham keeper Howard Simons kept the scoreline at 2-0 at half-time and the hosts promptly scored their third goal when and Jones got his second of the day.

Jones then rounded off his hat-trick from a well-worked penalty corner routine and the final goal came from Chris Instone with a reverse-stick strike.

n CHIPPENHAM C were unable to make it back-to-back victories in East Central 2 as they went down 3-1 at Shepton Mallet B.

Tim McKendrick was on target for Chippenham, although it only served as a late consolation.

Chippenham D were beaten 3-0 away at Corsham in the same division.
