THE top two sides in Division Two went head-to-head at the High Street ground, Holt, and thanks to a 2-1 victory over Zeals, Dan Mercer’s side have opened up a three-point lead on their title chasing rivals.

Holt had two good chances to take the lead before Zeals opened the scoring through Aaron Carter, Mark Maguire notching the equaliser.

Ben Alexander went from creator to scorer as Joe Walker played him in and he calmly slotted home what proved to be the winner.

A week after they beat South Newton & Wishford 9-1 in the Knockout Cup, Melksham Town B returned to the villagers’ Recreation Ground base and came away with a 3-0 success.

After a goalless first half Dan Walker put Melksham in front, Sam Robinson added the second and a Tom Clifford penalty completed Melksham’s fifth win of the season.

The Stiffs remain bottom of the table after they suffered a 3-0 defeat at home to Aces.

Stiffs trailed at the interval to a Nick Baldwin goal. Joe Garraway gave Aces the breathing space they were after and a Max Betteridge goal ended any hopes of a revival.
