PEWSEY Vale extended their unbeaten sequence in Hellenic League Division One West to a fifth game this week, although they also saw their ambitions in the Challenge Cup come to an end.

Craig Simmons got the only goal of the game in the first half for Pewsey on Saturday as they overcame Cheltenham Saracens 1-0 on the road.

Saracens finished the game with 10 men after Jack Sklenar was shown a straight red card.

The victory at Petersfield Park saw Alistair Tuttle’s side make it 13 points out the last available 15 in the league and they are now up to fourth in the table.

Vale were on the wrong end of a narrow 1-0 scoreline on Tuesday night, however, as they were knocked out in the second round of the Challenge Cup away at Wantage Town.

Steve Robertson’s solitary strike midway through the second half was enough to settle the contest in the hosts’ favour at Alfredian Park.

Pewsey will fancy their chances of extending their unbeaten league run to a sixth game on Saturday when they entertain fourth-from-bottom Cirencester Town Development.

In the Premier Division, Royal Wootton Bassett Town were without a game last weekend but were due back in action last night when they welcomed Binfield to the Gerrard Buxton Sports Ground.

Rich Hunter is then scheduled to take his troops to Abingdon United on Saturday.
