THE Wiltshire League’s Fountain Trophies Senior KO Cup took centre stage this weekend with three first-round matches being played, holders Wroughton beginning the defence of their trophy with a 5-2 success at Marlborough Town, Josh Connelly and Christopher Dean scoring for the home side.

Wroughton will await the winners of the tie between Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development and Bremhill, who meet in the middle of November.

Pewsey Vale Development gained some measure of revenge for their recent Premier Division defeat to Purton as they squeezed home 3-2 courtesy of Tom Pinder’s winner with the final kick of the game.

Craig Simmons and Taylor Edwards also netted for the visitors, Jack Duckers and Steven Keir scoring for Purton.

Pewsey will face Devizes Town Reserves in the last eight, with only one goal required to separate Devizes and Trowbridge Town, Sam Dodds seeing Devizes through to the next round with a strike in the 90th minute.

In Premier Division action, Shrewton kept in touch with the teams at the top of the table as they leapfrogged fourth-placed Kintbury Rangers with a 3-2 success, Dean Smith, Nathan Jones and Jake Watson on target, while Fabio Pinto took his tally for the season to 12 with both goals for Kintbury. Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development went sixth in the table after a 4-0 away success over Bassett Bulldogs.

Harrison Gough, George Staten, Josh Bolton and a Jamie Richards free kick wrapped up the points for Town.

Bremhill still await their first win of the season, but did at least take a point from a 2-2 draw at Malmesbury Victoria Development.

Serkan Killic and Alfie Mahon were on target for the division’s bottom side.
