NORTH Wilts’ annual indoor club championships were staged last weekend on their indoor carpet at Westcroft, in Chippenham.

They were dominated by two ladies, Alec Jacobs and Sue Cooke, who recorded five wins each – four together – in ladies and mixed events.

Next best on the ladies’ front was Molly Manning with two victories, while in the men’s and mixed championship events, the returning Steve Snook bagged a treble.

Jacobs took the ladies’ top title in the singles, beating Janet Hardie in the final, while in the pairs it was Jacobs and Cooke who reigned supreme.

The duo also took the triples title with Molly Manning and that trio, alongside Jacobs’ mother Judy Selbie, netted the fours crown as well.

Jacobs’ fifth title came in the mixed fours where, with Cooke, Steve Snook and Darren Anteney, they beat a foursome of Margaret Cooke, Zoe and Ian Bristow and Trevor Cooke.

Sue Cooke’s fifth success to equal Jacobs’ haul came in the mixed pairs where she joined-up with Snook to outgun Sue Pitman and Dave Williams.

Snook completed his treble of victories with a win over Anteney in the men’s singles final.

Three first chance events were contested over the weekend by players who had not won a category previously.

Honours in the mixed pairs went to Catherine Pike and Richard McComb, the men’s pairs to Bob Ferris and Graham Wingrove and ladies’ pairs title to Sue Pitman and Barbara Porter.

By winning the top two championship events, ladies and men’s singles, Jacobs and Snook should be North Wilts representatives next season in the respective Area 16 ladies and men’s champion of champion competitions, that lead next year to a national final at Hayling Island.
