CLARRIE Dunbar, losing semi-finalists two seasons ago and beaten quarter-finalists last year in the Egham Trophy, have made a positive start to the 2017-18 campaign in this year’s top mixed inter-team championship knockout event, writes DAVE EATON.

They won their opening two games, beating St Andrews (Weston-Super-Mare) 88-56 and last Sunday registered a 14-shots success as they took the plaudits 85-71 against North Wilts.

Clarrie Dunbar progress to the next round and meet Bristol, two rinks home and two away in Bristol (10am) on November 12, who beat Clevedon in a tight game 75-70.

RESULTS Home - Rink 2: Jeanette Wheeler, Sue Bird, Keith Bailey & Russell Francis beat Dave Edmonds, Fizz Mace, Roger Button & Sue Cooke 23-18. Rink 3: Thelma Bailey, Nesta Parfitt, Dale Taylor & Andy Colebrooke lost to Ian Bristow, Jane Taylor, Alan Small & Alex Jacobs 17-20.

Away - Rink 1: Marcia Hartley, Jo Dunford, Duncan McGovern & Neil Collett beat Norma Rowden, Robin Hardie, Jean Collier & Maurice Byron 24-14. Rink 2: Ruth Haines, Teresa King, Terry Perkins & Graham Shadwell beat Bob George, Barbara Shepheard, Irene Button & Richard Gainey 21-19.

Score: Clarrie Dunbar beat North Wilts 85-71.

ON SATURDAY, Dunbar men meet Somerset side St Andrews (Weston-Super-Mare) in the second round of the Denny Cup, top men’s inter-club national championship.

Clarrie ladies will enter the consolation Plate competition on November 18 against either Somerset sides Victoria (Street) or Nailsea.

CHRISTIE Miller ladies and men are both in action on Saturday.

The ladies face North Wilts in round two of the Yetton Trophy after receiving a first round walkover after Purnell conceded the tie While the men meet Victoria (Street) in the opening round of the second chance Denny Plate competition.
