WILTSHIRE national fours and triples championships quarter-finals began this week.

In the county and national fours at Westlecot on Tuesday night all of the matches with Holt's quartet of Wayne Simmonds, Justin Davis, Wayne Snook and Ben Gadd securing a 22-10 win over Adi Bolwell’s foursome from Spencer Moulton.

However, Danny Holland’s Avon quartet lost out 22-14 to Swindon skipped by Carl Fernandes.

In the other last eight matches, Chippenham Town beat Chippenham Park 25-8, while in the all Royal Wootton Bassett clash, former England international Mel Biggs lead his team to a 26-12 victory over Gary Morphet’s four.

The semi-finals will take place at Devizes on Saturday, June 18.

The men's triples quarter-final matches were due to take place this evening at Holt.

WILTSHIRE will begin their Middleton Cup campaign on Saturday when they take on Devon at Royal Wootton Bassett.

With Holt's Wayne Simmonds, Wayne Snook, Ben Gadd, Craig Hadfield-Doughty and Justin Davis all selected, while Spencer Moulton skips Graham Shadwell and his pairs partner Russell Francis are chosen again and Avon’s Colin Easton will make his Middleton Cup debut.

COUNTY men won their latest friendly match the annual game against the West Wilts Bowling Association held last Saturday afternoon at Spencer Melksham.

Led by county men’s president John Southern (Amesbury) they won by eight shots running out 123-115 victors.

Wiltshire’s next friendly match is scheduled to be an away game against Worcestershire at Bredon on Thursday, June 8.
