COUNTY junior men and women’s sides both recorded victories in their respective matches on Sunday at Royal Wootton Bassett and Andover.

The men’s U25 side produced a superb performance at Bassett to win their opening game in the national White Rose Trophy Two Fours competition 48-27 against Gloucestershire, winning on both rinks.

They led 9-8 overall after five ends but had moved into a 20-10 advantage at 10 ends. Wiltshire then went 35-21 up at 15 ends and 42-27 at 18 and finally won 48-27.

Wiltshire meet Worcestershire at home in the next round of the White Rose Trophy double rinks on Sunday.

The girls U31 team won their Amy Rose trial game at Andover against Hampshire, winning on one rink well and losing on the other by only a few shots.

The ladies begin their competitive Amy Rose Trophy campaign, national inter-county double rinks competition, at Royal Leamington Spa later this season, and have been drawn against Cumbria in the first round September 2.

In the Hampshire match, the ladies side included several newcomers for the first friendly game and won on one rink handsomely but lost on the other by four shots.

The Joanna Hicks rink despite, the disruption of Rachel Martin being replaced by debutante 12-year-old Louise Rose (Rodbourne Cheney) after 11 ends owing to a shoulder injury, won their game 25-8, while Charlie Godwin’s foursome lost their match 16-12.

This Sunday, Wiltshire’s Amy Rose squad continue their build-up for Leamington when they compete in a Four Counties Tournament at South Oxford.

The tournament will feature teams from Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Wiltshire and hosts Oxfordshire, with each fielding two rinks playing two matches over 15 ends.
