LEWIS Powell says that Chippenham Town will always hold a special place in his heart after he agreed to move to Leamington.

The 22-year-old striker, who netted 10 goals before his season was wrecked by an unfortunate leg break in January, has left Hardenhuish Park to sign for the Bluebirds’ Warwickshire rivals, where his father Wayne had a short spell as caretaker manager in the 2009.

Powell joined the club from Tiverton Town in January 2009 and said: “Adie (Mings) took a chance on me at a time where I was on a downward spiral and I’ll always have fond memories of Chippenham because I feel back in love with football there.

“ I’d probably be playing somewhere in the Welsh league if that hadn’t happened.

“Nathan (Rudge) was a bit concerned how I’d come back from my injury and he has a budget to work to so it seemed like the right time to move on.”

Defender Greg Tindle, 23, is also set to leave Town as he bids to earn a deal at a Conference club.

Tindle played locally for FC Chippenham Youth before joining Oxford United’s youth set-up.
