CHIPPENHAM sprinter Elaine O’Neill is anticipating an electric atmosphere at this weekend’s British Universities and College Sports (BUCS) championships and is relishing the opportunity to run out at the Olympic Stadium for the first time.
O’Neill, 22, is gearing up to race for Loughborough University in the 200m and 4x100m relay at the London 2012 venue in Stratford.
The BUCS championships mark the beginning of O’Neill’s outdoor season and the Welsh international is raring to get on the track and put a testing indoor campaign, which saw her miss the European Championships through illness, behind her.
“It’s always the first competition so I’m always a bit apprehensive about it but I’m just looking forward to getting out there and running,” said O’Neill.
“It’s going to be a great experience to run at the Olympic Stadium and I think it’s going to be sold out so the atmosphere should be amazing.
“My indoor season didn’t really go how I wanted so I’m just looking to do the best I can at BUCS.
“The first aim is try and get through the heats to make the finals.”
