Alex’s return lifts Corsham

CORSHAM skipper Pete Turner is raring to go ahead of the new Premier One season.

The 35-year-old batsman has taken over as first team captain from Pete Dennett and will lead his side into their latest campaign in the top flight of the West of England Premier League.

Corsham finished just above the drop zone last season but Turner is feeling optimisitic over their chances of a successful summer.

“The summer is always so short but it comes round quickly again, so you’re always excited about it,” said the Station Road captain, who has spent five years with the club.

“It’s always an honour to captain any first team and especially when it’s a club like this, that’s playing in the top division of club cricket.

“I’ve already selected the side for the first game and when you look through it, there’s a lot of talent there.

“There are players with minor counties experience and a lot of young, local lads who will be looking to step up this season.

“We had a tough year last season but there’s no reason not be optimistic.”

The 2009 league player of the year, Alex Senneck, is back with Corsham after returning to the area while Turner’s side have also further added to their bowling attack with the capture of Marshfield’s Ben Gardner.

Goan overseas pro Robin D’Souza has also re-signed with the club.

Turner said: “We weren’t able to re-sign Craig Miles from Gloucestershire this year but the signings of Alex Senneck and Ben Gardner should make up for it in our fast bowling.

“Alex has already shown that he hasn’t lost any of his ability in the one-and-a-half friendly matches we got in.”

Corsham are due to start their season at home to Taunton Deane tomorrow.
