AS I’VE mentioned in this column before, it was almost as if it was choreographed that we would go on to lift the title in front of 13,000 fans at the County Ground.

Before the game, there was a roll call for those that had passed away during the course of the season and the fans held red and white scarves aloft as the names were read.

Unfortunately, the names of Mr and Mrs Di Canio were among them.

That helped heighten the emotions of the day and the performance that followed from the players was fantastic.

Credit to Port Vale for their performance in the first half an hour but as soon as a Matt Ritchie flyer went in and we scored our second, it was done and dusted. The five goals scored were probably the best of the season too.

Jeremy Wray (interim chairman) and I were there of course and Sir Martin Arbib, who’s put a lot of money into the club, was there too, so it was great for him to see.

Unlike Paolo, I haven’t made any promises to get a Swindon Town tattoo.

I’m too old for tattoos and my wife would leave me if I came home with one.

I managed to get a photo of myself with the trophy and that will do for me as a great screensaver.

We’ve obviously got our last game at Bradford this weekend and we’re hoping to go their and win but the hard work for this season is already done.

We had a Paolo Di Canio XI take on a charity XI to raide money for the Wiltshire Air Ambulance last night and then on Sunday, we’re hoping to have 15,000 fans on the pitch to have a proper promotion celebration.

We’ve got bands like Toploader and The Lightning Seeds playing and supporters will be able to meet the players and take pictures with the trophy.

We’ve then got to move on and start looking towards next season.

But the fact is that Swindon are champions and Swindon are promoted and nobody can take the record book away.
