LITTLE Cheverell-based Olympians Lucinda and Clayton Fredericks are offering horse lovers the chance to own a foal of their star mount Headley Brittania in a unique online auction.

The auction, being organised by sales agents Rachel Wakefield and Michael Wynne, of Surrey-based Uptown Eventing, will see one of Headley Britannia’s foals by Grafenstolz – Britannia’s Jewel (Ruby - available to bidders.

Headley Britannia is the only mare to have won all three of the top four-star events (Badminton, Burghley, and Rolex) and has also produced two foals by embryo transfer in 2008, Little Britannia and Britannia’s Mail who were sired by the stallion Jaguar Mail and are part of a foal syndicate. The horse, who Lucinda rode to glory at Badminton, was recently retired.

In December 2009, Grafenstolz competed in his first Prix St George and won it with 69 per cent.

In October, the horse took second place in the Express Eventing final at the Horse of the Year Show, ridden by Alex Hua Tian.

Clayton Fredericks, who is competing at the Badminton Horser Trials on Be My Guest next week said: “Ruby is a beautiful filly with the potential to follow in Headley Britannia’s hoof steps and be one of eventing’s next big horses with the right owners to train and care for her.

"Ruby has such great potential in terms of breeding and athleticism that we wanted to offer her to an international market.

"Selling horses is an inevitable part of our lives, as it’s impossible to make a living from competing.

"We feel that Brit’s bloodlines and ability must be made part of the gene pool and from a practical point of view we can’t keep all of her foals.''

He added: "They (Uptown Eventing) are sales agents with a fantastic track record who specialise in top class international event horses so they were the natural choice for us to run the auction and manage the sale.''

Wakefield added: "We are delighted that Team Fredericks have asked us to procure the sale of this exceptionally well-bred foal and to be involved in this unique online sale.

"People will be able to follow the bidding live so it will be really exciting.''

The auction will open on Monday, May 28 at 9am and will close at 9.30pm on Tuesday, June 12. Potential owners will be required to register prior to being able to place a bid.
