MARLBOROUGH and District Junior Athletics club kicked off the season with a win – but only just.

Competing at Andover, MADJA beat the home side by just nine points, 350 to 341, comfortably ahead of Wimborne (282), Bournemouth (240) and New Forest (211).

The boys and men came first in all three age categories – U17, U15 (equal with Wimborne) and U13.

U17 Will Seward won the javelin with 43.4m and the discus with 33.8m, while Brad Hill jumped 1.65m and 5.97m to claim first in the high jump and long jump respectively.

In the 100m hurdles, Joe Williamson was second with a grade four performance.

For the U15 boys, Jamie Amor ran 12.7 seconds to win the 100m, while Elliot Lassiter was second in the 1500m in 5:16.8.

James Eyles and Harry Milton starred for the U13 boys, claiming first and second respectively in both the shot and the discus.

MADJA were strongest at U15 level, where they came second. Eve Tarring won the 100m in 14.2s, Jasmine Amiss the discuss with 14.74m and Ashlen Sowerby the 75m hurdles in 13.6s.

Frankie Temple-Brown was second in the U17 javelin, with 16.4m and Emily Sheppy second in the U17 80m hurdles, in 14.3s.

In the parallel Quadkids competition for U11s, MADJA came second with 1225 points, just behind Andover (1297).

The standout performer was Harriet Eyles, who finished first in a field of 20. She ran her 75m sprint in 12.3s, recorded a long jump of 2.84m, ran her 600m in 2:18 and threw the vortex 22.18m.

Tess Mayer came fifth, Polly Painter sixth and Poppy Davies eighth.

For the boys, Joe McQue was eighth, Thomas Holmes ninth and Tom Barker tenth.
