MEMBURY international Laura Collett managed a win at the Hambleden Symm International BE event near Henley-on-Thames, before heavy rain forced an early end to proceedings, writes KATE HEALEY.

Only seven BE100 sections were able to go ahead with all the top sections, including the CIC* International, abandoned.

Collett’s BE100 win came with the five year old first season horse Nankin W, who won by over two marks at only his third ever BE event.

“Our truck had to be towed on to the Hambledon site, which is always a bad sign,” said the former Pony, Junior and Young Rider European champion who is a possible 2012 Olympics contender with top ride Rayef.

“Nankin did a 30 dressage test and jumped another brill double clear, which he has done every time out.”

Fellow county riders Kitty King, David Doel and Tom McEwen all picked up seconds on their BE100 rides.

King, from Lower Stanton St Quinton, finished just over a mark behind Kiwi Olympian Dan Jocelyn, riding another five year old Ceylor Lan, who won at Somerley Park last month.

Lacock’s Doel was runner up to 2008 Beijing team bronze medallist Daisy Berkeley on Diamond Nine.

Hodson’s McEwen was second on Benz, who is proving highly consistent in his first BE season.
