WILTSHIRE riders were in fine form at the Ascott-under-Wychwood BE (British Eventing) affiliated one day event in Oxfordshire, writes KATE HEALEY.

Swindon’s Rhian Evans opened her 2012 season with a win in the BE80 section, the first training rung on the BE ladder.

The Kennet Vale Riding Club member rode her long time partner, the 16 year old bay Langarth D’Artangon, who also won at this venue last year.

Malmesbury-based Tammy Thornton also won a BE80 section with nine year old grey mare Lady Frisky, a first BE win for the duo, at only their fourth-ever affiliated event together.

Thornton, a keen member of Swindon Riding Club, is trained by Caron Roberts.

Swiss-born Christina Wiederkehr, who is based at Thornhill, near Wootton Bassett, topped a BE100 section on mare Devils Envoy.

Swindon-based Christina Knusden, who trains with top internationals Tim Price and Jonelle Richards, won the BE100 Open section on the eight year old Watervalley Lockey Guy, improving on the sixth they picked up at the Aldon event in Somerset last month.

Gill Horton, a member of the Swindon Riding Club team that won at the 2008 British Riding Club Horse Trials Championships, was just half a mark from a win on BE100 ride Pendragon VI. The 16 year old, who won at the Highclere BE event last year, has qualified for the forthcoming Badminton Grass Roots Championships.

Another Swindon Riding Club member Toby Pigott, who went clear cross country in the Somerley Park CIC** International last month on top ride Charlton Noted, was fourth at BE100 level on the six year old Bright Holland.

Isabel Mckeeman, a member of the VWH Hunt Pony Club, was fourth in the BE100 U18 section, where less than three marks split the top four riders on eight year old Ruscai Little Arkansas.
