CAPTAIN Gary Williamson hopes Wootton Bassett’s imminent move to Ballards Ash will help the club go forward in future years.

Bassett were unable to sign off with victory in their final league assignment at their Stoneover Lane base, Dave Hogg booting two penalties and converting Dan McCarthy’s try.

Williamson said: “It’s not the way we would have wanted to finish there, but it was a good day in terms of people being at the club.

“Our new facilities are not all finished yet, but we’re looking forward to it. Hopefully it will help us attract a few more players and be an inviting place to play.’’

Bassett conclude their season with away trips to Milton Keynes on Saturday and local rivals Marlborough.

Williamson added: “I think we’ve done pretty well this season. We’ve had a lot of injuries but we won the Dorset & Wilts Vase and we’re taking a positive look at it.’’

A final celebration match is planned at Stoneover Lane on May 26 to wave goodbye to the ground that has served as their home since the 1984-85 season.
