MINETY’S running game proved too much for county rivals Calne in their Dorset & Wilts Oner North clash.

An attacking lineout and a perfect catch-and-drive from Calne produced the game’s opening try but Minety responded when skipper Jack Ward’s quick tap sent number eight Max Smith through two tackles for a try.

Ward converted, as he did when wing Jonty Messer jinked past defenders to go under the posts.

Ward booted a penalty before Calne’s confrontational pack fashioned a second try.

But Ward pounced on a mistake in midfield and sent centre Dale Langdown under the posts for a try Ward converted.

A Calne penalty got the second half scoring going but Minety upped the tempo and Messer spun through two tackles and accelerated away under the posts, giving Ward an easy conversion.

Calne responded with a try but Minety finished with a flourish as, after a penalty had stretched the lead, scrum-half Richard Fisher finished off another move.

Winger Pete Hazell made a 60 metre charge down the right touchline for Minety’s sixth try, though he tore a hamstring in the process.
