BARBURY Castle trainer was pleased with the performance of Montbazon, who finished fourth in the opening race of this year's Cheltenham Festival, the William Hill Supreme Novices' Hurdle, this afternoon.
Donald McCain's Cinders And Ashes (10-1) won the race in great style to lay down a Champion Hurdle marker for next year.
Trifolium was a neck behind Darlan - trained by Lambourn's Nicky Henderson - in third, with Montbazon and Prospect Wells not too far behind those.
King said of Montbazon: "He's run a nice race and was only beaten two lengths.
"He's a lovely horse and one to look forward to next year."
