PLAYING into the wind in the first half Pewsey had to contend with a go-forward Bath side, but managed to contain them with a strong defensive performance.

Having given their all in the first half the home side were routed by a dominant Pewsey who commanded field position and possession in the second half.

Though under some pressure in the first half Pewsey always looked dangerous on the counter attack.

The first score came when Saracens where caught off side, scrum-half Jack Aroskin taking the three points.

Though Saracens had the territorial and wind advantage, Pewsey continued to impress on the counter attack and were rewarded when flanker Jeremy Horton went over for a try after 10 minutes.

Vale then crossed the Saracens’ line twice, both times being denied as held up.

On 35 minutes though, number eight Phil Vallis made no mistake as he broke through the home defence and planted the ball for the five points. Both tries went unconverted.

Saracens hit back with a kick ahead and chase for a score in the corner.

With the wind to their backs and a tiring opposition Vale took full advantage running in six tries.

Ten minutes in and first up was outside centre John Williams who ran in from 30 metres, Aroskin adding the extras.

A minute later, quick ball out to Williams had him sprinting for the line. This time the defence had him covered but a deft pass put supporting wing Tony Bloomfield in for the try, unconverted.

On 60 minutes a tap penalty on halfway saw a series of Vale rucks surge for the Saracens’ line, at the end Horton taking his second try of the day, Aroskin adding the two points.

From the restart Pewsey played quick ball and inside centre Brendan Palmer ran in for the five points.

Horton was next up to cross the line but when he disputed the referee’s decision that it was held up, he was sent to the sin-bin to join a Saracens’ player who had left the field two minutes earlier.

Williams added his second try of the day shortly after, bursting through the home defence.

Getting back on for the last two minutes of the game Horton was on hand to complete his hat-trick just before the final whistle.
