CHIPPENHAM swimmer Branwen Harris is hoping to continue as one of the country’s top lifesavers after coming home with four medals from last month’s Commonwealth Lifesaving Championships in South Africa.

The 23-year-old helped her Great Britain teammates break a host of British records as they claimed silver in the 4x50m obstacle relay and bronze in both the 4x25m manikin relay and 4x50m medley relay.

Harris, of Ridings Mead, also received another bronze medal for the British team’s overall placing and was subsequently invited into the UK performance squad.

“It was amazing to be a part of it all and we were really happy with how we did,” said Harris, who also just missed out on a medal with fourth place in her individual event, the 50m manikin carry.

“The closing ceremony was great and it was just fascinating to be there because I didn’t even know that the sport existed a year ago.

“I’m moving to London next month and I’ve got to get settled there and find a new club.

“But I’d like to be a part of the performance squad and carry on (swimming for Great Britain).”
