MALMESBURY Victoria boss Simon Winstone was left buoyed by his side’s performance as they held their nerve to see off Premier Division Ascot United.
The Vics led their Premier Division opponents up until the 92nd minute of normal time, thanks to Max Sparrow’s goal, but the home side snatched a late equaliser to force extra-time.
But Antony Brown, Sparrow and Mark Field all netted in the penalty shoot-out to send Malmesbury through to the next round.
“I’ve felt like we’ve been playing well for the last four or five weeks and everything just seemed to come together,” said Winstone.
“We could have won the game in normal time but I just hope that the lads believe in themselves a bit more because they’re a good group of players.”
