WE were playing in the Red Insure Cup last night and we try to utilise the contest for its benefits.

If it helps lads get 90 minutes under their belts, which means they get up to match speed quicker for when they come back into the squad, that’s what we’ve got to use it for.

We had a good run in it last year but it’s one of those competitions that’s difficult in terms of the revenue it generates, which isn’t always conducive to putting the game on.

There’s no real prize money and you don’t get the crowds that you need but the games are always beneficial in terms of getting players back and getting them fit.

We talked about making sure that our away form is better before last weekend’s game with Hitchin and I did think that it was two points dropped, if I’m being honest.

We’re not conceding goals and we look quite bright in attack but we’re creating chances and not taking them at the moment.

They say if you can win your home games and pick up points away from home, it gets you there or thereabouts and gives a platform to build on.

We’re a bit disjointed and not the finished article at the moment.

We’ve got Poweller (Lewis Powell) playing, who’s only 80 per cent fit, Iain Harvey, Alex Kite and Greg Tindle have all only played a few times after long lay-offs.

So we’ve got lads who are not at full speed and there are still others who are missing through injury and suspension.

Ross Stearn has picked up an injury too now so he might be out for a little while – it’s just ongoing.

It never rains but it pours but we’ll just have to get on with it.

We haven’t got the fully fit squad that we want but hopefully we can get there in a few weeks.

Pitch (Jack Pitcher) is back fit now though so that gives us another attacking option.
