CHIPPENHAM secured their third bonus point win of the season by putting Newbury Blues to the sword, courtesy of five tries.

Blues, without a win all season, fell behind when when full back Sam Saunders kicked a penalty on five minutes and just over 10 minutes later, livewire hooker Aaron Clark outpaced the defence to score the hosts’ first try, Saunders converting.

Saunders booted a further penalty and the home side strengthened their grip on the match as second row Adrian Price powered over for his seventh try of the season.

The second half saw Chippenham start in positive fashion, with number eight Jamie Doubleday scoring after a powerful run through the defence, Saunders adding the extras.

Welsh 2005 Grand Slam winner Hal Luscombe then joined the fray for the Wiltshire men, who increased their lead when hooker Clark scored his second try of the afternoon, Saunders converting.

Prompted by young scrum-half Graeme Ridler on his first team debut, Chippenham continued to press, although Newbury grabbed a late converted consolation try through Ali Widdrop.

But the hosts had the final word, with prop Pete Kirby driving over from short range and Saunders converting.
