FOOTBALL - Wiltshire League: The match of the day in the Premier Division resulted in a 2-1 win for Wroughton at second-in-the-table Devizes.

A delighted Wroughton boss Mark Love said: "It was a real battle, Devizes are a good side and it was a very even contest.

"The second half was not too pretty with tackles flying in all over the pitch, but they were fair and hard."

Wroughton took the lead with a well taken goal by Scott Ward, with the home side equalising through Marcus Wallen five minutes before the break.

Honours remained even until ten minutes from time when a well-taken free kick by Michael Wilson was met by Tom Steptoe who netted with a powerful header.

New College took advantage of the Devizes defeat to move into second spot in the table following their 3-0 away win at Bradford.

The lively College side took the lead midway through the first half with with a 25 yard strike from Linford Webb and added further goals from Tom Caddon and Danny Greenfield.

Purton Reserves found leaders Corsham Town in top form and were beaten 9-0.

Jason Walsh, Ross Lye, George Bentley and Marcus Duhalta all scored a brace each with Simon Gray completing the scoring. Barry Flippance notched for Pewsey Vale in their 1-1 draw at the Recreation Ground with Malmesbury Victoria.

Elsewhere in the Division, Newton's goal secured three points for Melksham at home to Westside and Marlborough beat Bromham 3-0 thanks to goals from Hughes, Glover and Mildon.

Crunch match in Division One was between Minety, who had won all five of their matches, and Stratton Rovers, who were undefeated in six starts. Rovers ran out 4-1 winners but manager Pat O'Driscoll thought the score line was a shade flattering for his side.

"It was a hard-fought game and a great result for us, but Minety are a good side and it was very close," he said.
