CHIPPENHAM TOWN: ALAN Griffin says patience was the key to Chippenham Town's win over Corsham Town. The former Corsham player found it frustrating against the Toolstation League outfit but refused to panic.

He said: "There were not a lot of chances in the game, and when the game is like that you have to wait and make sure you take them when they come.

"People were expecting us to go in with a lead but they kept us out and it was a case of staying patient."

Two second half Dave Gilroy goals were enough to sink the visitors, but Griffin was full of praise for his old side.

He said: "They did well and they had a game plan to soak up pressure which worked for them.

"We knew they would come and put up a good fight and they are a decent team, but we were very focussed because we knew we had to win the game."

The striker was also coming up against many of his former team mates and revealed there was a good atmosphere on the pitch.

The Bluebird's reward for conquering Corsham is an second round qualifying game at Hellenic Premier Division side Slimbridge on Saturday, September 30m after they beat Yate Town 2-1.

Griffin said: "We were lucky last year because we had a lot of home games but the most important thing of the cup is making sure you are in the next round.

"They are around the same level as Corsham but if we go there and play our game then we will beat them."
