CHIPPENHAM TOWN: FOR former Chippenham Town favourite Colin Towler there was no old pals act when the two sides met on Saturday.

Towler skippered the Corsham Town team in their 2-0 FA Cup first qualifying round defeat at Hardenhusih Park.

He said: "There were players who I have known for years and we didn't get anything out of them, they were very focussed.

"It was like a compliment from Darren (Perrin) to have them so focussed for a match against us."

Towler said his side could be proud of their efforts against the Bluebirds but felt the result could have been different if played at Southbank.

He said: "In the last 10 minutes we had a bit of the play and pushed forward and could have got something.

"We are a little bit disappointed though because we want to win games and if we had played at home we could have given them the jitters.

"But it was a great atmosphere and it is always nice to come back and play in front of a big crowd.

"It was good to play a game against our bigger cousins with the strength they have got and what they have achieved in recent years."

The defender pointed to two-goal Dave Gilroy as the difference.

He said: "Gilroy is a quality player, just when you think he is not in the game he pops up. He is a League player. I thought we nullified Alan Griffin and he will be the first to admit he was in a game."

After a 6-0 home defeat to Welton Rovers last month Corsham have beaten Dawlish Town, Torrington and Keynsham Town in the league and Towler now thinks the club is back on track.

He said: "The future is bright. We are not quite Southern League standard yet and we can improve with two or three more players."
