CHIPPENHAM TOWN: JOHN Woods felt there was not much difference between Corsham Town and Chippenham Town despite his side going down 2-0 at Hardenhuish Park.

Corsham's assistant manager, who played 170 games for the Bluebirds between 1998 and 2002, felt proud of his side's efforts.

He said: "It was nice to come back but the result was disappointing. However, we gave a good account of ourselves and we had a few chances.

"When you think there is a couple of leagues difference between the sides we did well, other teams will come here and be beaten heavier than us."

Corsham matched Chippenham in a scrappy first half but were undone by two Dave Gilroy headers after the break.

Woods said: "We had a strong first half and set ourselves up well but there was a difference in sharpness and their movement was very quick.

"We knew their long throw and corners were going to cause us problems but that is part of the game."

Woods was disappointed with the kick off being delayed 15 minutes after referee Matthew Downey was caught in traffic on the M4.

He said: "They have a difficult job but I don't think he was in tune with the game and being late didn't help anyone's preparations."

The midfielder was expected to take charge of the team in the absence of manager Colin Bush but was pleased when Bush returned from holiday early.

He said: "I was glad he came back because it allowed me to concentrate on playing, rather than managing and looking after all the players as well."
