GOLF: RAY Howell has no worries about his son David handling the colossal' pressure f the Ryder Cup. The proud father, son Ian and Howell's mother Sally Pearce are all in Co. Kildare, Ireland for tomorrow's main event.

Fourball matches start at 8am as holders Europe take on Tiger Woods' American challengers at the K Club.

Ray said: "It is colossal but David is very good at handling the pressure.

"He is so dedicated. I went to Chelsea versus Liverpool on Sunday and David said he couldn't come as it would interfere with his practice."

Howell senior has only had fleeting glimpses of his son this week while playing unofficial ticket master.

He added: "I saw him walking on the 18th from a distance when he was practicing. I've have been acting like a ticket officer because we don't want people disturbing him." After his debut in last year's famous win at Oakland Hills, Howell, 31, is determined to have a greater impact in Ireland.

He said: "I'm a better player now and more is expected of me which brings it's different pressures.

"I would hope to play a more active role this time but the Ryder Cup is a week of sacrifice as much as personal achievement and glory."

There is massive support for the European team, none more so than at Howell's Swindon club Broome Manor.

General manager David Buckingham said: "Nobody has been talking about anything else for the last few months. There will be a great atmosphere - we need to make sure we have enough food and beer in the bar."
