DEVIZES judoka Jemima Duxberry hopes to cement her place in Great Britain junior squad after clinching a third national title at the weekend.
Duxberry, who is 17 next month, won the junior women’s (U20) title in her first outing in the U63kgs weight category at the ice Sheffield arena on Sunday.
The Devizes School A-level student defeated Southlands’ Holly Fielding in the final, having stepped up from the U57kgs category in which she had previously excelled.
Duxberry, a member of Devizes Budo Club, competed for her country at the Junior European Championships in Lommel, Belgium last month and has set her sights on more continental appearances as she establishes herself in her new weight division.
“I’m really happy because it (the Sheffield event) was my first in that weight group,’’ she said.
“Everyone was a little stronger and a bit bigger, but it was quite similar to what I am used to.
“It’s going to be tough (in the future), but it will be a bit of a learning curve and we’ll see how it goes.’’ Already earmarked as a potential future Olympian, Duxberry, of Green Lane, will return to Belgium later this month to compete in the prestigious Flanders Cup before preparing for January’s Great Britain trials.
She was not the only success story for the Devizes club in Sheffield, clubmate Amy Oram winning a silver medal in the pre-cadet girls’ U36kgs category.
Devizes’ Pammie Luffman (U57kgs), Elliot Burbidge and Adam Bolwell (U46 kgs) also competed, while Charlotte Emery just missed out on a medal, finishing fifth in the U48kgs event.
