BIDDESTONE captain Dwaine Perry wants to see his side challenge for the Glos/Wilts Division title by going unbeaten in their final six games of the season.

Second-placed Biddestone claimed a narrow victory over league leaders Goatacre last weekend and Perry is hoping that a successful ‘mini-season’ can get underway with a crucial victory at third-placed Swindon this Saturday.

“If we hadn’t beaten Goatacre then I think they’d have gone on to win the league and that would have been it for everyone else,” said the Biddestone skipper.

“It’s almost like we’ve got a mini-season now and if we can go unbeaten through that then Goatacre might slip up – if they still go on to win it then well done to them.

“It was a nailbiting game against them and even though we bowled brilliantly to restrict them to 94, we lost wickets at crucial times ourselves and had to rely on Lawrence Roots (4) and Chris Roots (4) to get us home.”

The hosts chose to bowl first after winning the toss and Naeem Khan tore through the Goatacre batting line-up, taking six wickets for 36 runs.

Jason Searle hit 28 for Craig Gibbens’ visitors while Luke Edwards made 18 but Perry and Shaun Liesbich took a further two wickets each to skittle Goatacre for just 94.

But it wasn’t plain sailing for Biddestone in their run chase, with Goatacre skipper Gibbens taking three wickets.

Khan followed up his impressive bowling figures with a knock of 20 while Liebsich and Perry made 18 and 15 respectively.

Kevin Iles took another three wickets for the visitors but Biddestone eventually reached 95 with just one wicket in hand to claim a vital victory.
