JUDO starlet Jemima Duxberry is celebrating after winning a silver medal at the European Junior Cup event in Cetniewo, Poland last weekend.
The 16-year-old, who is in her first season as a junior (U20) and is already second in the British rankings, won her first four fights before losing in the final to home judoka Arleta Podolak.
“It’s a great result for her and especially because she’s still only 16 and has been beating people who are a lot older and experienced than her,” said Devizes Budo Club coach Richard Hopkins, who has worked with youngster Duxberry.
“The key is not to bring on youngsters too fast and I think Jemima is coming on at the right pace.
“The number one girl in her category (Nekoda Davis) is 20 so I think they’ll be focussing on Jemima for the future now.”
Duxberry looks set to compete in the next Junior Cup event in Berlin on August 13.
