BOX BC’s Jean Collier claimed a title double at Chippenham Town’s second Open Tournament.

Wiltshire county player and 2009 county president Collier teamed up with Box clubmate Alex Jacobs to win the ladies pairs event at the Hardenhuish Park club.

The duo defeated the home pairing of Dawn Toms and Jan Boden 19-18 in their final, having overcome another home pairing – Viv Baskerville and Barbara Land – in the semi finals.

Collier then added the ladies singles crown to her collection, after a tight 21-20 success against Chippenham’s Barbara Shepheard, who had herself defeated Jacobs 21-18 in the last four.

The men’s singles crown was won by teenager Mike Titcombe, from the Westlecot club in Swindon.

He came out on top against Chippenham’s Mike Savin 21-11 in the final.

Savin was also a beaten semi finalist in the men’s pairs, as he and Bob Chalmers lost 21-6 to club chairman John Lucas and Steve Heseltine.

Lucas and Heseltine went on to claim victory in the final, with a 22-10 success over clubmates Alan Stell and Colin Beacham.

Lucas then teamed up with his wife Christine to win the mixed pairs title, courtesy of a 21-11 success over Stell and Shepheard.

But he was denied a third title in the mixed triples as he, his wife and Dave Williams were beaten 21-14 by Savin and his wife Yvonne and Richard Gainey.
